Spoke to on 11/1/2012 and refused to quote on Elise, saying they dont really deal with these any more. 25 Sept 2015 - Martin no longer there, struggle to insure newer cars, quoted £2k+ for V6 Exige (v's approx. £500 elsewhere)
Cannot provide cover if you've had a fault claim in the last 12 months. 5-Oct-2017 - called for a quote on Exige V6 S Roadster and told that due to recent changes cannot insure Exiges anymore due to insurance group 92.
October 2017: the good news is that my quote was very very cheap. The bad news is they use a company called ERS which if you Google it has the most AWFUL reviews. So it's fine as long as you never claim!
Target profile is primarily second car or low mileage (5K) drivers, werent competitive (for me) on a 9K miles policy. Well worth a try if you fit their profile though. Offer multi-car policies and unlimited track days. Honda transplants will exceed their bhp mod limit.
Ever wanted variable intermittent on your wipers? Ever get annoyed that every time you wash the screen, the wipers smear it 4 times? Well you can fix both of these things by changing the wash/wipe relay. Also applies to Exige V6, however possibly NOT the Sport 350 or later....caution advised.

Sourcing the improved relay
Various part numbers have been put forward as replacements. Obtaining new relays is possible but the majority can be found from the local breakers yard:
* Beru: 0 900 301 082
* Kostal: 377 955 531
* Bosch: 0 986 335 058
* VW: 3B0955531 ................. has 197 printed on the top, info from Audi/VW dealer - replaces VW: 357 955 531 (type 99 below)
* www.gsfcarparts.com pt no 93610
* OPEL 12 38 550
* SAAB 85 53 463
* VW 191 955 531 ................. believed to be the standard type 19 relay
* VW 357 955 531 ................. the type 99 relay
* VW 321 955 531 A ............... (sourced one from theairflowmetercompany on ebay and it didnt do anything different, had no VW logo, just part number and circuit diagram printed on it, possibly a duff clone)
* LIEBHERR 1 001 443 3
* JOHN DEERE AZ 49 989
* HAKO 90-35730-2
* KRAMER 100 010 51 46
* HYMER 0416073
* Hella 5WG 003 620-021
* Use these part numbers at your own risk!
* Some certainly aren't quite the correct relays, some are!!

MK3 Golf
One of the replacement relays known to work is from the MK3 Golf.

VW part no. 3B0955531 works, has 197 printed on top. Costs £30.97+VAT new.

Going price from a breakers yard is around £5. Most breakers yards will have a number of Mk3 golfs, and the correct relay can also be found in lots of different VWs (usually the higher spec cars) dating from the mid '90s. In the golf, the relays (and fuses) are behind a plastic panel under the steering wheel, above the drivers footwell. You can just pull the relay out.

There are two common relays you'll find in the cars. The WRONG one has the number '19' printed on the top of it in big white numbers. This is really no different from the original lotus relay, and no upgrade at all. The CORRECT relay has the number '99' or '197' printed on it. This is what you need to find. The '99' or '197' relay is usually found in higher spec cars, and the '19' relay in lower spec cars.

Fitment
The relay is situated up underneath the dashboard in the passenger footwell of the Elise. It takes approximately 30 seconds to change it, no tools required, although some gymnastic ability is helpful!

To fit it, you need to get your head down into the footwell looking up at the back of the dash-front. Up there (as shown above) are a couple of relays. Pull out the one which looks the right shape, and check that the pin pattern is the same. Push in the '99' relay and the job's done.

Now when you wash the screen, it'll wipe just twice, and you'll have variable intermittent.

To use the Variable intermittent, flick the wiper stalk to wipe the screen once. Then wait for period of time "x" and put the stalk to intermittent setting. The intermittent delay between wipes will now be "x".
Easy.

The Evoras wing mirrors are electric and heated as standard, however the Power-fold door mirrors which allow the driver to fold in the wing mirrors by pressing in the centre of the wing mirror switch, are an optional extra - priced between £300 in 2009 up to £350 in 2012.

A car fitted with Power-fold Mirrors can be identified by looking at the top of the mirror adjustment switch.
If the top centre is marked with a dot the car is not fitted with Power-fold Mirrors.
If it is marked with a picture of a wing mirror and arrows pointing inwards then the car is fitted with Power-fold Mirrors and these can be activated by pressing in the adjustment stick.

Retro-fitting
The only difference between cars fitted with or without power-fold mirrors is the switch fitted in the drivers side door panel. All cars are fitted with the necessary motors and wiring from the factory.

The Power-fold switch is Lotus Part Number A132M6068F and can be ordered from DeRoure for £42, however the part is originally from the Ford parts bin (Ford Part Number 1S7T-17B676-AA) and is used in a variety of cars such as the Ford Mondeo Mk3, Focus Mk III/IV and Fiesta Mk8.

At the time of writing the switch is also available for under £20 from the ebay seller Mondeospares, under the title "FORD MONDEO MK3 POWERFOLD ELECTRIC WING MIRROR SWITCH 2004 - 2007". The seller has been reported as accepting 'Best Offer' bids of £12 + pnp (edit 30/5/14 - accepted £15, refused £13)

Fitting is simply a case of prising out the old switch with a small thin screwdriver wrapped in paper towels to protect the leather and, being careful not to damage the trim, lifting it up and out. Once the switch is out use the screwdriver to release the switch connector latch and unplug it.

To reassemble simply plug in the connector, line up the switch and push it back down in the the hole. The clips on the side will fix it in to position.

Replacing the Window Seals

Litton4:

Unlike the S1 Elise, the S2 has easily replaceable window seals which are not bonded onto the door panel, which eases their replacement. They are still however prone to bubbling and distort out of shape - normally just under the wing mirror at the leading edge.

The good news is that most dealers will always have at least one pair in stock, as they tend to have to replace them before any car can be sold second hand - and they are more sensibly priced.

(L)B117U0010F Waist Seal
(L)B117U0009F Waist Seal

As of April 2011, these are priced at £31.11 + vat each

The first job will be to remove the small plastic plug that is in the door end. If you can't find it then it may no longer be in place, and even if it is it might have slipped through the rubber end seal anyway.

Next, starting at the door edge on the outside side of the door, gently pull back the rubber strip. Work slowly about an inch at a time being careful not to damage the fibreglass and it should come off easily.

Once you've done the outside edge you should find that the inner side of door seal comes off easily due to the extra working space. Take advantage of having easy access to both window edge mechanisms and rub some silicone lubricant down both front and rear window guides. It will help prevent the windows from sticking at a later date.

Where the seals used to be will be full of muck, crud and general road grime. Use T-Cut or a similar cleaner to remove as much grime and clean up the paint work up as much as you can. The cleaner and smoother it is the easier it will be to get the new seals on.

Despite this being an S2, it is possible that you don't own a tub of vaseline, so the next best thing to help something rubber coated to slide into a tight hole is Fairy Liquid.
Try not to use anything that has a high salt content such as supermarkets own brand washing up liquids as this can damage the rubber.

Rub a thin bead of your washing up liquid inside the middle of the recess of the rubber seal.

Fitting isn't the reverse of removal. Instead you'll find it easier to do the outside door window seal first.

Start at the front end under the wing mirror get the the window seal all the way home. Work backwards ensuring that the channel slides onto the end of the door panel. When you get all the way at the back, use a screwdriver between the glass and the seal to slide it all the way in to place. Don't worry about the end cap just yet - but once it's all on repeat for the inner seal, once again starting at the end nearest the front of the car. Once both seals are on - use the screwdriver to ensure everything is all home.

With both the outer and inner seal fully mounted sort out the end cap by pulling the inner gasket over the metal mounting inside. The supplied plastic plugs are pretty much useless - but your local autofactors have plenty of better sizes available.

Once complete, wash away and get rid of all the excess washing up liquid. Result - a better fresh seal that will probably clean your window as it slides up and down.
